How to Network on LinkedIn in Less Than 15 Minutes a Day

LinkedIn is potentially the greatest way to create meaningful connections that are actually relative to your field of work. We know that you do not have the time to be visiting LinkedIn because your life is so busy, but what if you could make use of this social networking site in just a few short minutes? Here are some tips to help you network on LinkedIn in as little as 15 minutes a day!

Join Discussions (5 Minutes)

One of the best parts of LinkedIn would have to be the great discussions that are created between like minded individuals. This is why it is important to join groups that are relative to your career and join the discussions. This step should not take more than 5 minutes if you have already joined a few groups and really are an expert in your field.

When you login to LinkedIn, the first thing you should do is take a quick overview of your groups and check out the conversations that are going on. Wherever you think that you can add some positive and informative insight in a conversation, just do it! Even if it is a short blurb, at least you are adding to the discussion and showing that you care about what others in your field have to say. One helpful comment can lead to a slew of new connections if they like what you shared with the group.

Create Connections (5 Minutes)

The whole purpose behind LinkedIn is to create business connections with others. These connections can be extremely beneficial, especially if they share the same career as you. You can gain industry insights and share some knowledge between one another. Adding connections is a quick and simple task if you have been participating in group discussions.

Simply go into the groups that you have joined and see who is talking. These are usually the most active people on LinkedIn because they take the time to join conversations and share some personal knowledge with others. Find some professionals that you would like to add to your connections list and just add them! Send them a personal message as to why you would like to add them to your connections list and then hopefully they will accept it. Start adding a few people a day and overtime it will add up, which will lead to a network of connections that may be beneficial in the future.

Stay Updated (5 Minutes)

This last step is simple, and you can use as little or as much time as you want to accomplish this task. Stay updated on your industry! Read what others in your network are posting by taking a look at your news feed. This is a great way to gain some information that you may not have found otherwise. Always be sure to thank your connection for sharing, or comment on status updates that you like, and this will show that you are listening to what they are sharing.

If you are up early and are having your normal cup of coffee, then scroll through your newsfeed and I am sure that you will find a gem of information that you had no idea about. Also LinkedIn has a news section that covers stories in the business world. Share some articles with your network that you personally enjoy, and see what comes of it! Not only are you helping yourself with this information, but you are ensuring your network that you are active and want to help.
